I enjoyed the movie up until The Machine was able to “wirelessly” connect with humans — in the movie they called them “hybrids.” The movie then really lost me when The Machine was able to heal the earth by somehow floating nanites into the atmosphere.
But I did enjoy the exploration of self-awareness; how do you define it and ultimately verify it. There was also some exploration of identity and what makes a person that person and they even touched a bit on what it means to be fulfilled.
I dispised the typical Hollywood ending of leaving it open for a sequal and ending it on a happy note. The movie ends as the loving couple die in each other’s arms and we part with images of pretty flowers – literally.
